Previously, we used to filter the water once a year using a concrete bucket outdoors.
In recent years, we have been able to meet the demand by filtering it indoors all year round.
Mountain of raw soil
These were collected in the neighborhood during my grandfather 's generation (8th generation).
The excavated soil is allowed to dry for about a month.
Put some dry soil in a bucket and wait for it to dissolve.
Once melted, stir and transfer to the bucket on the right.
Wait until it settles and then drain the top water.
After a week of work, about 30% of the contents of the bucket will settle.
Drain the water and transfer to a terracotta jar.
Leave it for about 5 days and the water will drain out.
Transfer to a clay pot and leave to dry.
After leaving it for 3 to 4 days it will harden to the right consistency, then form it into balls and store.
It is left to sit underground for at least six months, and it is said that the bacteria in the clay makes it sticky.
This is the inside of clay that has been left in the basement for over a year. You can see that iron has moved along with the moisture.
